Larsen & Toubro has secured a major international infrastructure order in Saudi Arabia for the expansion of the Riyadh Metro, further strengthening its global presence in urban transit projects. The contract has been awarded by the Royal Commission of Riyadh City to L&T’s Heavy Civil Infrastructure vertical as part of a large consortium of global engineering and construction firms.
The project involves the extension of the Red Line of the Riyadh Metro network, one of the city’s most important mass transit corridors. L&T’s scope includes the design and turnkey construction of an 8.4-kilometre metro stretch comprising both elevated and underground sections, along with the development of five new metro stations.
Valued in the range of ₹5,000 to ₹10,000 crore, the order falls under L&T’s “Major” project classification. Industry observers highlight that the project underscores growing opportunities for Indian engineering firms in the Middle East’s large-scale urban infrastructure development, particularly in metro rail and mass transit systems.
